Berries

Robert took a picture of all the berries that we have here in our own yard. Salmonberries, watermelon berries, huckleberries and salal berries. There are a few others, but this is a nice representation of the wild berries. It has been a cold year, so there aren't many around and the blue berries are still green. I really miss the blueberries. What about you Julie, over there on POW? Are the berries good this year?

Karen, we don't have many berries over here this summer either, nor have we had the good weather to compel us to go find any to pick. The kids have found some good bushes up in Naukati by the church that they eat on every Sunday. And Rebekah has a red huckleberry bush by the Thorne Bay church that is loaded, but it is above a 10 foot cliff. She doesn't mind climbing up to them, but I, the mom, do mind if she climbs up to them...Since both patches are by churches, maybe thats where you should look! We've actually been enjoying a great harvest of raspberries this year in our own backyard. I'll be disappointed if we don't get any blueberries or red huckleberries for jam, but the raspberry jam should make up for the loss! And Rob--nice picture!
